Photography has never been about cameras for me. It has always been about people.

As the founder and primary photographer of Dave Cruz Photography, I bring more than 35 years of experience to every assignment. I’ve had the privilege of standing where history, humanity, and hope intersect. My foundation as an award-winning photojournalist, covering some of the world’s most significant events, shaped the storytelling approach I bring to every assignment today.

My career began in newspaper photojournalism, where every assignment started with one question: What’s the story? Covering the Olympic Games, Super Bowls, World Series, presidential campaigns, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the Second Gulf War taught me to recognize moments before they disappeared, earn trust quickly, and tell authentic stories under extraordinary pressure.

As my journey evolved, I discovered that storytelling wasn’t limited to newspapers. Every company has a story to tell. Every nonprofit has a mission worth sharing. That realization led me into commercial photography—helping organizations strengthen their brands, communicate their mission, and connect with people through authentic visual storytelling.

That journey eventually led me to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where I discovered the most meaningful work of my career. Every photograph has the opportunity to inspire hope, honor courage, celebrate generosity, and remind the world why its mission matters.

Today, I see every assignment as the beginning of another story waiting to be told. Because in the end, the greatest photographs aren’t remembered for how they looked. They’re remembered for how they made us feel.
